Classical Music

The tragic tale of Viktor Ullmann is one seldom heard, a trait that sadly also applies to his music. A composer who studied under Arnold Schönberg, Ullmann had composed upwards of 40 works before his deportation at the hands of the Nazis to Theresienstadt concentration camp in 1942, where amazingly he continued to produce 20 more pieces before his eventual killing at Auschwitz two years later.
The Doctor of Performing Arts programme is RCS’ innovative professional doctorate in artistic practice.
This series of performances features student-led Professional Projects from students on the DPerf programme. Pianist Baichuan Hui takes to the stage for this edition, performing the sonatas Ullmann wrote prior to his deportation..
