Wallace Studios at Speirs Locks

Just ten minutes’ walk away from our main building at Renfrew Street, our second building is located on Garscube Road, neighbouring Scottish Opera and the National Theatre of Scotland. It contains four professional dance studios, new studios for set production rehearsals, props and wardrobe design and construction and an industrial scale paint frame.

The dance facilities at the Wallace Studios at Speirs Locks were first opened in 2011, after an investment of £6M. The four industry-standard dance studios are a central part of the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland’s performing arts campus. The spaces are used to support professional dancers in their Modern Ballet training at the Royal Conservatoire and also by our Junior Conservatoire of Dance programme providing a school, community and pre-vocational access.

Housed in the same location, and opened in 2014, there are eight multi-purpose rehearsal spaces including two large production rehearsal spaces and our production classroom.

The facility was built by Malcolm Fraser architects, who also designed the home of Scottish Ballet at Tramway. It puts the Royal Conservatoire at the heart of an ambitious urban regeneration programme, supported by Glasgow City Council, and is a cornerstone in the creation of a hub of artistic activity in this part of the city.
