Brian Ferguson appointed Head of Classical and Contemporary Text

Actor and educator Brian Ferguson has been appointed Head of Classical and Contemporary Text at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.

Brian, who joined as a teaching artist on the programme in 2022, is also an alumnus of RCS.

Since graduating in 2001, he has worked extensively as an actor with many of the UK’s leading theatres, including The Royal Court, The Almeida, The National Theatre of Scotland, The National Theatre of Great Britain, The Citizens Theatre and the Royal Shakespeare Company.

He has also worked extensively in television and film in the UK and abroad, most recently in the BBC’s Rebus.

In recent years, alongside his acting career, teaching has become a central aspect of Brian’s practice.

Brian said: “It’s a real honour to begin as Head of Classical and Contemporary Text. The course is such a fantastic and unique offering for acting and directing students at MA/MFA level in training for today’s industry.

“The opportunity to bring my experience as both an actor and educator to lead on a course which means so much to me, is thrilling.”

Dr Marc Silberschatz, Director of the School of Drama, Production and Film at RCS, said: “Brian is an enormously accomplished actor, having worked with many of the UK’s leading theatres and artists as well as extensively in television and film in the UK and abroad.

“He is also an exceptional educator whose expertise in actor training, in particular, is both rigorous and forward-thinking in all respects. His combination of exceptional artistry and exceptional pedagogy will offer a great deal to the MA/MFA Acting/Directing Classical and Contemporary Text and to the Conservatoire as a whole.”
