Four Royal Conservatoire of Scotland ballet dancers in semi-finals of prestigious global ballet competition
Four Royal Conservatoire of Scotland ballet students have reached the semi-finals of one of the world’s most prestigious ballet competitions.
Final-year BA Modern Ballet students Antonia Cramb and Nicolas Pereira da Silva and second-years Selene Guasti and Isla MacLeod are competing in London this week in The Fonteyn – the Margot Fonteyn International Ballet Competition – which attracts the finest young dancers from around the globe.
Antonia is pictured in the front row (fifth from left) with Selene on the right, in navy. Isla is standing behind Antonia in grey while Nico is in the centre of the back row.
The Fonteyn is dedicated to promoting and rewarding excellence among young ballet dancers trained in the Royal Academy of Dance syllabus.
This year, more than sixty dancers from over 30 countries are taking part. It offers a unique opportunity to work with world-renowned choreographers and professionals, compete for medals and cash prizes, and perform on an international stage.
The final will be livestreamed from His Majesty’s Theatre on Sunday 8 September from 7pm. Watch here
This year’s judges are Darcey Bussell (Royal Academy of Dance president and guest principal coach of The Royal Ballet), Alessandra Ferri (artistic director of Wiener Staatsballett), José Alves (freelancer and former leading artist with Ballet Black), and Kevin O’Hare (director of The Royal Ballet), with Andrew McNicol as Commissioned Choreographer.
“Reaching the semi-finals of such a prestigious global ballet competition is a tremendous achievement and a testament to the dedication and talent of our dancers,” said Kerry Livingstone, Head of the school of Dance at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.
“We are incredibly proud of Antonia, Nicolas, Selene and Isla for demonstrating their artistry and skill on the international stage and we wish them all the very best for Sunday’s final.”
