Introduction to Filmmaking: Shooting Scenes

Short Courses – 10 Week

Overview

This ten week in-person course will focus on introducing students to the art of filmmaking. Working as a film crew, the students will take on the roles and responsibilities of a working set. Working from iconic scenes from film and television, students will learn how to build and operate all the equipment used on a set and will get hands on experience of every role that makes up a film crew, from Director to Boom Operator.

This course would be ideal for anyone who has little to no practical filmmaking experience, or for those preparing to make a short film and keen to learn how to make this process as professional as possible.

By the end of this course students should understand:

  • All the roles that make up a film crew and the responsibilities of each one
  • How the various departments work together
  • How a professional set runs
  • How to build and operate the equipment used by the film crew
  • The role of the shot list and shooting schedule on a film set

This is an introductory, open access course which will best suit students who have had no practical film training. This course may also be suitable for those keen to develop and improve particular skills or gain further confidence within the variety of roles that make up a film crew.

Agnes Allan Bursary

Agnes Allan was a teacher, passionate about inclusion, and this bursary scheme exists to offer support to students to participate in the performing or production arts.

The Agnes Allan Bursary provides some support to students who may require financial assistance to take part in a short course in dance, drama, music, production or screen.

Anyone who wishes to take part in our Short Courses and faces a financial barrier can apply for bursary support to help meet the cost of tuition fees.

James McAvoy Drama Scholarships

BAFTA-winning and Golden Globe nominated actor James McAvoy is committed to nurturing the creative potential of young Scots who experience barriers to access and participate in drama at RCS Short Courses.

James is a graduate of the BA Acting programme at RCS and Patron of the Junior Conservatoire of Drama. The Glasgow-born actor has funded the new James McAvoy Drama Scholarships to enable young people to experience the world-class drama training at RCS as he did.

The scholarship aims to support applicants who would otherwise find meeting the cost of tuition fees at RCS a barrier to accessing pre-Higher Education drama training at the Royal Conservatoire.
