BA Acting

This intensive programme will prepare you for a career in theatre, screen, and radio as you explore your creativity in acting, voice, and movement.

Overview

The RCS three-year BA Acting programme is one of the leading actor-training programmes in the UK. Practical and intensive training will prepare you for a professional career as an actor on stage, on screen, on audio and other digital media platforms. You will collaborate with others to make new work and perform in public-facing productions. Your actor-training journey will be one of discovery, with an awareness of the world around you as an artist.

You will work intensively with our expert teaching staff to develop acting, voice, and movement skills, equipping you for a career in film, television, and theatre.

Our movement specialists are trained in the Lecoq technique and will help you acquire some of the best movement skills for actors in UK training. You will also work with the Centre for Voice in Performance – using techniques developed by voice expert Nadine George.

We accept a cohort of dedicated students who demonstrate potential, an appreciation of the art of acting, a sense of self, and an awareness of the world beyond them. We focus on developing you as a creative artist where you will be part of an ensemble with others from across the world. You will undertake Professional Practice modules from the start of your training, developing your individual artistic identity and ensuring that you graduate as an entrepreneurial, industry-ready actor.

Studying at RCS offers you the unique opportunity to collaborate with your peers, formally and informally, across all performance disciplines, including dance, music, production, and film.

How to Apply

Apply via UCAS Conservatoires

Applications are made through the UCAS Conservatoires website. The UCAS Conservatoires application system is separate from the main UCAS undergraduate application system. You can read our guidance about using UCAS Conservatoires on our dedicated How to Apply page.

All applicants applying for the BA Acting programme also need to create an Acceptd profile and upload a headshot. As part of this process, you will need to complete a questionnaire — a required part of the Acceptd submission.

We do not offer deferred entry. If you wish to commence in 2026, you must apply next year.

The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland institution code is R58. You will also require the following programme code to apply: W410 — Drama Performance.

The closing date for all applications is 29 January 2025. If you submit your application after this date, we cannot guarantee that your application will be reviewed by the audition panel. If you do want to submit a late application, you must contact admissions@rcs.ac.uk in the first instance to check we are accepting late applications.

Application & Audition Fees

There is a UCAS Conservatoires application fee of £28.50. In addition to the application fee, each conservatoire charges an audition/interview assessment administration fee. The interview assessment administration fee is £55 for this programme. Fees are not refundable. The fees are paid via the UCAS Conservatoires website and not directly to RCS.

We recognise that auditioning and interviewing for conservatoires, drama and ballet schools can be costly. The audition assessment administration fee charge allows us to offer a thorough and positive experience to all applicants and we encourage you to get in touch to ask the panel questions and find out more about the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland to see if it is the best place for you.

We are committed to ensuring fair access to a conservatoire education for students who have the talent and potential to benefit from it, regardless of their background. In support of this, audition fee waivers are offered to applicants whose financial hardship may be a barrier to auditioning. Please note you can only apply for a fee waiver request once you have completed and submitted your UCAS application. Please see the audition fee waiver form for more information.

Successful applicants from round two will be invited to attend the final recall at RCS.

During the final recall, applicants will be invited to the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland for a 30-minute audition with the panel and a tour of the campus. Applicants will be asked to present a new monologue and have an interview with the panel members.
