Yoon-Kyung Kim
Yoon-Kyung has built a long and distinguished career dedicated to nurturing musical talent since the 1990s. Her experience spans teaching musical theory and providing instruction in both group settings and one-on-one lessons, catering to the diverse needs and learning styles of her students. Her comprehensive approach to music education ensures students not only achieve technical proficiency, but also develop a deep understanding of musical theory, enhancing their overall musicianship.
As a seasoned teacher and accompanist, she possesses the expertise to guide students at various stages of their musical journey, including preparing them for professional qualifications such as those offered by the ABRSM. Additionally, she has been instrumental in helping students with ABRSM grade exams as an accompanist and teacher and in securing music scholarships.
Yoon Kyung Kim, a pianist born in South Korea, has built a distinguished career marked by exceptional achievements. She graduated at the top of her class in performance from both Seoul Arts High School and the Department of Instrumental Music at Seoul National University. Her early successes include winning first place in prestigious competitions such as the Hankook Ilbo Competition, Segye Ilbo Competition, Busan MBC Music Competition, Young Artist Chamber Music Competition, Eumyeon Piano Competition, Teenager Competition, and Samick Piano Competition.
These accomplishments earned her numerous scholarships, including the Yamaha Piano Scholarship, ABRSM Scholarship, Carr Inches Scholarship, and The Philip Halstead Prize. With these honors, she pursued further studies in the United Kingdom at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama (RSAMD), where she graduated with distinction, earning a Postgraduate Diploma and an MMus in Performance.
Yoon-Kyung’s performance career is equally impressive. She made her debut with the BBC Symphony Orchestra and has given solo recitals in major cities such as London, Manchester, Glasgow, Edinburgh, and Aberdeen, as well as international venues in Athens, Thessaloniki, Crete, and Nuremberg. Her talent has been recognized with first prizes in numerous competitions, including The Peter Lindsay Miller Prize, The Jacqueline McCarthy Prize, The Concerto Competition Prize, The John Ogdon Foundation Prize, The Intercollegiate Beethoven Competition, The Bach Prize for Harpsichord and Piano, and the European Intercollegiate Piano Competition.
Having studied under esteemed mentors like Hyung-Joon Chang, Jae-Hee Hyun, Philip Jenkins, and Aaron Shorr, Yoon-Kyung is now based in London. She teaches accompaniment and keyboard skills to undergraduate vocal students at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland (RCS) and works as a piano teacher at Christ Church Primary School and Milbourne Lodge School.
