Tawona Sitholé

Tawona Sitholé is a poet, playwright, musician, educator, and facilitator who works with diverse communities, including schools, refugee integration, and academia. He insists on joy.

“I view my work as a privilege as I have been able to work with so many different communities. We are doing everything else to live, but we need to commune. It is amazing when you get involved in this dynamic.”

His work is built upon listening, storytelling, heritage, and culture; he emphasises their importance.

“Everything is story. I was lucky to start life in a collective community with many traditions, proverbs, rituals, and idioms, mostly about the community and its well-being. The work is a lot about listening to what people care about. Being around other people is amazing. We make community always, by sharing food, words, and music. We are always making and remaking. We feel more at home once we have a community around us. That’s when the learning begins.”
