Morag Campbell

Music Education has always been at the heart of Morag’s professional life.

As Chief Executive of NYCOS, Morag expanded the network of choirs across Scotland and secured funding that enabled the young people to work with conductors such as Sir Donald Runnicles, Sir John Eliot Gardiner, Francois-Xavier Roth and Robin Ticciati.  During her tenure, NYCOS performed at prestigious venues including The Usher Hall, Carnegie Hall in New York, The Royal Albert Hall and The Paris Philharmonie.  In addition, NYCOS accepted invitations to sing in Anne Arbor in Michigan, the Grand Teton Festival in Wyoming and the BBC Proms in London.

Previously Morag was Assistant Principal at Stevenson College Edinburgh with responsibility for Creative Arts.  One of her achievements was to commission The Music Box, a multi-million-pound custom-built performance, rehearsal and practice space for students and the wider community.  She also negotiated the co-delivery of degree courses with Abertay University in Dundee and Edinburgh’s Napier University.

Morag has contributed to many international projects with European HE institutions including the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre, the Royal Conservatoire The Hague, The Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music Budapest and The Paris Conservatoire.

In the early part of her career, Morag taught music in nursery, primary, secondary and further education and was variously an examiner, marker, setter and better for the SQA.

Before this, Morag studied singing and performed throughout the world as a soloist and choral singer.

After six years, Morag stepped down as Chair of Chamber Music Scotland. Previously, she was Chair of the Hebrides Ensemble and has served on the Board of WHALE Arts and IMPACT Scotland. Currently, she is Chair of Music Broth, a charity dedicated to representing and supporting disadvantaged and/or underrepresented people and groups, providing them with access to instruments, tuition and facilities.
