Luke Russell
Luke was appointed Principal Piccolo of the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra in 2019.
He studied undergraduate at the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama and then postgraduate at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama, winning the Solo Wind Prize at both institutions and graduating with 1st Class Honours and Distinction respectively. After graduating, Luke won the position of co-principal flute with the Southbank Sinfonia Orchestral Academy.
Luke has also freelanced with orchestras across the UK including London Symphony Orchestra, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Scottish Chamber Orchestra, English National Opera, City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, Royal Scottish National Orchestra, Welsh National Opera, BBC National Orchestra of Wales, Ulster Orchestra, Oxford Philharmonic Orchestra and John Wilson’s Sinfonia of London.
Career highlights include performances at the Lucerne Festival, Glastonbury Festival, BBC Proms, Aldeburgh Festival and tours to China, Dubai, New York, Japan as well as many European countries.
