Leonor Estrada
Leonor Estrada Francke is an interdisciplinary theatre artist from Lima, Peru. She works across genres, creating live art that is political and visceral, documentary and surrealist. Her current research interests include anticolonialism, feminism and the city, as well as developing a language of surrealist auto-fiction with which she disentangles her biography.
Leonor has made work that can be thought of as site-specific protest performance, physical theatre and text-responsive theatre, as well as film and audio pieces. She has been employed as a performer, director, dramaturgist and designer.
She is a founding member of Sonqo Ruro, a collective that makes political performance and arts pedagogy on topics related to memory, the body and territory.
In Scotland, in the years 2021 and 2022, she was an attached artist to the Royal Lyceum Theatre Edinburgh, through its L20 Programme. She also worked as a Creative Assistant for Two Destination Language.
Her latest personal work, Ballad of the Crone, was featured in Edinburgh’s Manipulate Festival. Currently, she is developing Fissure, which has been supported by a bursary from Take Me Somewhere and a residency from Surge.
Leonor is a graduate of the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland’s MA in Classical and Contemporary Text Directing course and of Peru’s only professional circus school, La Tarumba. She also completed a Scenic Arts degree in the Department of Communications of Pontificia Universidad Católica (Perú).
