John Somerville
John is a Lecturer and Folk Ensemble Mentor on the BMus Traditional Music course. He also teaches Principal Study Accordion as part of the Scottish Traditional Music degree.
Accordionist John Somerville hails originally from the Highlands of Scotland and is known as a performer, composer and educator within the Scottish folk and world music scene. He has performed and worked with a host of bands and artists including folk supergroup Treacherous Orchestra, electro-folk pioneers Croft No Five, in a duo with Adam Sutherland and in the Cask Strength Ceilidh band.
In his role as an educator, John has worked with many organisations, local authorities, music groups, charities and communities up and down the country delivering a wide variety of music based classes and workshops. He has performed and toured extensively throughout the UK, Europe and beyond and his compositions have featured on several albums.
