Jane Hensey

Jane joined the Musical Theatre Department at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in 2018, firstly as a discipline lead in Acting, before moving quickly into a role as Head of Programme (MA Musical Theatre) and subsequently Head of the Musical Theatre Department (Academic Lead) in 2021.
Before her work within this department, Jane enjoyed a twenty-year career as an Acting Lecturer and Director in a wide array of educational settings, including several UK drama schools and colleges. She began her professional career as an actress before moving into teaching, and through the years has continued also to relish the opportunity for learning. Upon graduating from drama school with a Diploma, she achieved a First-Class Honours degree in Humanities & Literature with the Open University. She was the first and only student to graduate from an intensive two-year pathway on the ‘MEd Learning and Teaching in the Performing Arts’ programme at the RCS.
Jane is passionate about nurturing and developing the individual and she continues to explore ways of promoting health & wellbeing through training. She has published and presented research internationally around the integration of emotional, social and spiritual intelligence within performing arts training. She continues to be inspired and excited by the brilliant students she has the privilege of supporting and working with.
