Gary Gardiner
Gary Gardiner is an award-winning artist and co-artistic director of 21Common: a Glasgow-based performance collective in receipt of Regular Funding through the Dance Portfolio at Creative Scotland.
Gary is a performer, director, producer and creative learning practitioner, working across a range of local and international contexts. He pioneers arts education practice and contemporary performance work including Santa: A Very Merry Businessman (5 stars); Thatcher’s Children for which he won the Arches Theatre Platform 18 Award in 2012; Dancer (4 stars), The Ballad (4 stars) and more recently In The Interest of Heath and Safety Can Patrons Kindly Supervise Their Children At All Times (5 stars).
Gary has toured work and led projects throughout the UK, Europe and internationally, including Chile, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Beijing, the Island of St Vincent and Scandinavia.
21Common embraces the notion of art as a deep dialogical process of exploration between artists, participants and audiences.
Key themes in Gary’s work are critical and creative learning; knowledge exchange; equality and human rights; democracy and social justice; and gender and capitalism.
Gary is currently undertaking a PhD on the relationship between Social Practice and Revolutionary Pedagogy.
