Emmie McLuskey

Emmie McLuskey is an artist, producer and facilitator of The School for Plural Futures, an alternative education project for young people based in the Isle of Skye and Lochalsh. Emmie has a passionate affinity with socially engaged creative practice.

For me to create meaning, I need to know the context and the audience, therefore it’s very important to work with people.

In working with communities, Emmie emphasises the importance of,

Working with local people to consider how conversations are framed so it is them speaking and me helping to create the conditions.

Emmie explains,

In educational settings, it must be a two-way conversation to get rid of hierarchies because we all just have different experiences of life; they’re not better or worse, they’re just different. Working in a community can take you on so many challenging, exciting and complicated routes that you would never be able to predict.

Culture is about people; if you want to engage in meaningful ways with culture, then working with people is an absolutely integral part of understanding what culture actually means.
