Clare Sutherland

Lecturer in Piano

Clare Sutherland presently teaches Piano and Accompaniment on the BEd course at the Conservatoire. She enjoys helping students improve their Piano skills and widening their general repertoire.

Clare studied piano with Bernard Roberts and Harpsichord with Ruth Dyson at the Royal College of Music. After leaving, she was awarded an Arts Council scholarship to continue her Harpsichord studies with Trevor Pinnock.

She went on to perform as a soloist and with leading Baroque ensembles at all the major London venues, as well as throughout Europe and beyond. Highlights included concerts at the Vatican, Eifel Tower, wine chateaux of Bordeaux and in Kingston, Jamaica. Clare also appeared on stage as a pianist in productions at the National Theatre and Lyric Theatre in London.

Alongside performing, Clare’s career has included a long-term post teaching Piano and Harpsichord at the Purcell school of Music, as well as posts at junior RSAMD, Napier University, University of East Anglia and Morley College in London.

She has also enjoyed examining and mentoring for ABRSM, teaching at Marlborough summer school, accompanying at Oxenfoord International Summer School and working as a freelance teacher, accompanist and repetiteur.
