Amy Turner
Amy Turner currently holds the position of Section Principal Oboe of the Orchestra with the Orchestra of Scottish Opera, a position she has held since 2015.
Under the tutelage of Nicholas Daniel, she gained a place to study at Chetham’s School of Music and continued her studies at the Royal College of Music, London. During her time at RCM she studied with Christopher Cowie, David Theodore, Gareth Hulse, John Anderson, Jane Marshall and Christine Pendrill, and was able to take part on an Erasmus exchange to the Staatliche Hochschule für Musik and Darstellende Kunst in Stuttgart learning with Christian Schmitt.
Amy has since enjoyed a busy and varied freelance career, playing as guest principal oboe with all the Scottish orchestras and various orchestras around the UK. She has been a lecturer of oboe at the RCS since 2015.
Recent highlights as a soloist include performing the UK premiere of the oboe and string orchestra arrangement of Thea Musgrave’s ‘Night Windows’ and Richard Strauss’ Oboe Concerto with the Orchestra of Scottish Opera.
As a keen chamber musician, she has been part of various chamber ensembles over the years, as well as appearing as a guest artist.
