‘Let’s Talk About..’ Films

These films were created in collaboration with Filmmaker and Writer, Colleen Bell, who has lived experience of familial estrangement, and care experienced and estranged undergraduate students from RCS.

They aim to frame the perspectives of care experienced and estranged students in a useful way for teaching staff, support providers and peers.

Colleen worked with the students to explore how themes of identity and community relate to their journey as students and development as artists.

Rhia and Deia talk about how life experiences have shaped their practice and creativity, about their strengths and things that have been important to them in navigating how they define themselves as artists and people.

By sharing these films we hope to increase understanding of how to best support care experienced and estranged students at RCS, how to provide the right support at the right time so they can thrive, realise their potential and pursue sustainable careers in the creative industries.

Exploring Identity

Exploring Identity was created with the aim of connecting with current care experienced and estranged students to establish relatable feelings, thoughts and behaviours for artists trying to balance their live experience with their passion.

Exploring Community

Exploring Community was created with the aim of connecting with current RCS staff, identifying practical methods of support to be considered and implemented in teaching practices.
